Meridian Case Study Summary
Engaged Spaces forged a collaborative relationship with Meridian, initiating a comprehensive Landscape Analysis to grasp the school-wide dynamics and uncover avenues for growth. Fundamental to our partnership were Step-back Meetings, which included Heads of School (HoS) and Family Engagement Coordinators (FECs), ensuring alignment and shared commitment to our objectives.
In our pursuit of leadership evolution, School Leader Thought Partnership Meetings provided a forum for reflection and strategy, essential for fostering an environment where liberatory practices could thrive. One-on-one Pre-dialogue Participant sessions set the stage for individual engagement and laid the groundwork for effective group dialogues.
Central to our program were the six Caregiver-Staff Dialogue Sessions, which served as a fertile ground for mutual understanding and connection across diverse community members. Complementing these were the three Leader Dialogue Sessions, an extension of the caregiver-staff group dialogue, intended to amplify leadership capacity in support of the program's vision.
Our Ongoing Work and emerging Themes included a pivotal Final Leader Dialogue Session, which set the direction for our Summary and Scope for the 2023-2024 school year. The participants' zeal to deepen their understanding and practical application of anti-racism and liberatory practices highlighted their readiness to champion and implement transformative change within the Meridian community.
We concluded that for authentic equity-driven, community-led change, there must be an intentional expansion to embrace a greater representation of Black, African-American, and Latino/a/x individuals—those whose lived experiences are most directly affected by the school's systemic inequities. The path forward for Meridian is clear: continue to build on these foundational dialogues and invigorate the community's efforts toward an inclusive, empowered, and equitable school culture.
